
The Indira Gandhi International Airport has tightened its security following an explosion in Delhi near Red Fort on Monday, authorities said on Tuesday, issuing a passenger alert.
DIAL, the operator of the Delhi airport, said in its advisory to passengers that the security screening process is likely to take longer in view of the prevailing situation.
“Due to the prevailing security situation in Delhi, the security arrangements at the Delhi airport have been enhanced and the security screening process may take longer than usual,” DIAL said.
The warning to travelers comes a day after a powerful blast in Delhi rocked the national capital when a car exploded near the busy Red Fort area, killing at least 13 people and injuring 20.
DIAL has asked passengers to arrive early to avoid any hassles.
“We advise all passengers to plan their journey accordingly and arrive at the airport well in advance to avoid last minute hassles.”
He added that all teams and stakeholders are working closely with security agencies to minimize inconvenience and ensure a safe and smooth travel experience for passengers.
Delhi blast: Information alerts at Bengaluru and Mumbai airports
Security has been beefed up at all major airports outside India after the Delhi blast.
Bengaluru’s Kempegowda International Airport on Tuesday asked passengers to arrive early as security checks would take longer.
“Due to enhanced security measures at airports across the country, we request all passengers to plan their journey and arrive at BLR airport well in advance,” the airport said in a message shared on its X account.
Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Airport has also issued a similar advisory to arrive before scheduled departure and cooperate with security personnel.
“Passenger screening protocols for departing passengers have been enhanced at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA).
Delhi brings the latest security updates
Security has been beefed up in the national capital following the blast in Delhi near the Red Fort on Monday. The death toll from the explosion rose to 13 and 20 others were injured.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Tuesday chaired two rounds of a high-level meeting to review the situation.
Delhi Police conducts raids at several locations. A state of emergency was declared in the capital, with tight security at the airport, railway stations and bus terminals.
After the completion of the first round of negotiations, the Ministry of Home Affairs handed over the investigation of the case to the NIA.
