The Kozhikode Sessions Court on Friday adjourned its order on the bail plea filed by Shimjitha Musthafa, accused of abetting the “unnatural death” of Govindapuram native U. Deepak, on Friday, seeking a police investigation report. The court asked the police to immediately submit an interim report for further legal action.
On February 5, she was remanded in police custody for one day on the order of the Kunnamangalam First Class Judicial Court to complete further interrogation by senior police officers and collect some evidence related to her bus journey in Payyannur. She moved the bail plea in the appellate court after it was rejected by the Kunnamangalam court.
Fresh family accusations
Meanwhile, Deepak’s family has come up with a fresh allegation that the police is not conducting a proper investigation into the incident. They alleged that the statements of those who were in the bus when the accused captured footage of Deepak on her mobile camera allegedly sexually assaulting her, were not collected for verification.
On the other hand, Shimjitha remained firm on her complaint that there was misconduct on the part of Deepak. During a brief interaction with the media on February 5, she also reiterated that there had been no change in her petition.
Deepak was found dead at his home near Govindapuram in Kozhikode on January 18. According to police sources, the sexual harassment video was shot by the suspect during a bus journey in Kannur district on January 16.
