Tamil Nadu Legislative Assembly Speaker JCD Prabhakar said on Sunday that there was no specific time limit in the assembly rules or laws for taking a decision on any letters submitted to the Speaker. He, however, said that a decision on the letters submitted by both groups of AIADMK legislators would be taken under the law at an appropriate time.
The speaker’s remarks came against the backdrop of a vertical split in the AIADMK legislature party, with one group led by party general secretary Edappadi K. Palaniswami and a rival group led by former minister SP Velumani.
Mr. Prabhakar, who was elected MLA from Thousand Lights in Chennai, inspected the grounds in Gopalapuram, Valluvarkottam and Gill Nagar on Sunday. Talking to reporters in Gopalapuram, he said that Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay has proactively monitored all the ongoing projects and asked the officials to ensure their speedy completion.
As part of the Aayiram Vilakku Thoguthiyil Aayiram Panigal (A thousand works in a thousand lights) initiative, he said that work has already been started to stop sewage leakage and overflowing on roads. Officials have been directed to complete the work as soon as possible. Mr. Prabhakar said those who use the Gopalapuram playground have raised concerns about the lack of proper drinking water facilities. They also drew attention to the problem of insufficient lighting. He assured them that the drinking water facility would be provided within a week. According to him, the demand for additional lighting should also be taken into account.
Mr. Prabhakar said that vehicular parking will be provided in the boxing arena of the sports complex whenever it remains unused for sports activities.
Mr. Prabhakar said that this decision was taken based on the demands of people who visit the playground by car and were unable to find a place to park their vehicles.
He also directed officials to inspect the playground and take measures to prevent flooding as there were fears of water stagnation during heavy rain. Furthermore, the fitness equipment needed for the gym would be purchased within 15 days.
He said a three-day sports festival would be held at Thousand Lights and trophies would be distributed to the winners. Information about the inspections will be forwarded to the councilors of the relevant section and they can join it.
