The Telangana High Court on Monday directed the state government to take a decision within four weeks to set up District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commissions in 23 districts.
A bench of Chief Justice Aparesh Kumar Singh and Justice GM Mohiuddin, hearing a PIL petition regarding the constitution of district-level commissions, directed the government to file a compliance affidavit in the matter by December 22. The government carved out 23 new districts from the earlier 10 districts, bringing the total to 33.
However, district commissions were not established in the newly created 23 districts. The PIL was filed to direct the government to form new consumer organizations for the remaining districts.
In a separate case, Justice B Vijaysen Reddy directed Hyderabad Disaster Management and Asset Protection Agency (HYDRAA) Commissioner AV Ranganath to maintain the status quo regarding the demolition of structures belonging to Sandhya Convention in Gachibowli. HYDRAA officials had some structures demolished by the convention owner in survey number 124 and 125 at Serilingampally under Ranga Reddy district.
Earlier, the property owner had moved the HC saying that HYDRAA was demolishing structures built as per the rules. Referring to the demolitions carried out on Monday, the petitioner sought direction to stop them. The hearing was adjourned until Tuesday.
