The older Dalai Lama said on Saturday (July 5, 2025) that he hopes to live until he is more than 130 years old, days after he tried to alleviate speculation about his sequence by doing so
The spiritual leader of the Dalai Lama spoke during the ceremony organized by his followers to offer prayers for his long life, before his 90th birthday on Sunday (July 6, 2025). The Dalai Lama previously told Reuters in December that he could live at 110.
“I still hope to live for more than 130 years,” the Dalai Lama said to hundreds of followers from all over the world who gathered in the northwestern hilly city of Dharamshala, where in 1959 he lived after an escape from Tibet as a result of an unsuccessful increase against the Chinese government.
“We have lost our country and we live in exile in India, but I was able to benefit quite a lot. So, I live here in Dharamshala, I intend to serve beings and dharm as much as possible,” said Buddha’s teaching, according to his speech translation.
Beijing perceives the Dalai Lama as a separatist and insisted that his leaders have to approve his successor as an inheritance from the imperial era.
The Dalai Lama has previously said that he will be reincarnated in the “Free World” and this week he told his followers that the only authority to recognize his reincarnation lies solely with his non -profit institution, Gaden Podrang Trust.
