Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed officials to take necessary precautionary measures based on lessons learned from previous cyclones as Cyclone Montha moves towards the Andhra Pradesh coast. Reviewing the situation through the RTGS Command Centre, the Chief Minister stressed the need for utmost vigilance in all vulnerable areas.
The review meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan, Ministers Nara Lokesh, V. Anitha, P. Narayana, Chief Secretary K. Vijayanand and senior officials from various departments. Officials informed the Chief Minister that the cyclone was approaching the land and had already started affecting the coastal areas.
Heavy rains accompanied by strong winds were reported in Kakinada, Machilipatnam, Visakhapatnam and other regions.
The Chief Minister ordered that National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) teams be deployed in Kakinada and surrounding areas where landfall is expected. He also directed the authorities to predict the intensity of wind and rainfall in advance and take appropriate precautionary measures.
Officials informed that heavy rains are likely to lash Visakhapatnam, East and West Godavari, Krishna, Guntur, Prakasam and Nellore districts. The Chief Secretary assured that all District Collectors in the affected areas have been put on full alert to ensure effective disaster management and public safety.
