The Cyberabad Municipal Corporation (CMC) on Saturday (July 25) removed 347 encroachments from roads and footpaths in 14 identified stretches during its week-long ‘Walk Free’ enforcement drive covering a total distance of 18.8 km.

The civic body said the special drive was taken to reclaim public spaces, improve pedestrian accessibility and ensure safer roads and barrier-free paths in the corporation’s jurisdiction.

According to the CMC, the highest number of encroachments was cleared in the Quthbullapur zone where officials cleared 167 encroachments in a seven kilometer stretch. Within the zone, 25 encroachments were cleared in Chintal, 28 in Jeedimetla, 34 each in Kompally and Nizampet, 15 in Dundigal and 31 in Medchal.

In Serilingampally zone, the journey covered 8.3 km and resulted in the removal of 123 encroachments. After the circle, the officials removed 15 encroachments in Patancher, 27 in Ameenpur, 30 in Mijapur, 15 in Serilingampally and 36 in Madhapur.

Kukatpally zone saw 93 hits cleared in a 3.5 km stretch. The drive removed 15 encroachments in Allwyn Colony, 20 in Kukatpally, 22 in Moosapet and 36 in Madhapur.

CMC Commissioner G. Srijana said that the ‘Walk Free’ initiative is aimed at creating safe, accessible and barrier-free public spaces for pedestrians while ensuring smooth movement of traffic across company boundaries.
