
The state unit of the CPI(M) on Monday announced its candidates for five assembly constituencies. The party retained M Chinnadurai, sitting MLA from Gandarvakottai constituency, but replaced Nagai Mali D. Latha in Kizhveluru as he completed two terms in the assembly. The candidate for Padmanabhapuram constituency is R. Chellasamy, district secretary of the party in Kanniyakumari district. In Palani, the party fielded N. Pandi, a member of its state secretariat and secretary of the Dindigul district farmers’ union. L. Sundararajan, its state committee member, was deployed in Tiruvottiyur. Mr. Sundararajan, who started his career as a contract worker, is active in the party’s trade union CITU. D. Latha is the Nagapattinam district secretary of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA). The party is contesting the elections as part of the DMK-led alliance.
