Consensus on appointment of VC reached during previous tenure of LDF government: Minister for Higher Education Roji M. John
Higher Education Minister Roji M. John said that the settlement regarding the appointment of Vice-Chancellors (VCs) at APJ Abdul Kalam University of Technology and Digital University of Kerala (DUK) was finalized during the previous tenure of the Left Democratic Front (LDF) government.
In a statement issued here, the minister said the controversy surrounding the appointment arose during the LDF regime.
At that time, both the state government and the chancellor approached the Supreme Court, which subsequently referred the matter to its Special Lok Adalat for mediation.
Subsequently, regular VCs were appointed to both the universities based on mutual understanding between the two parties. The appointees also assumed their respective offices.
He also clarified that the government had granted permission to technically close the Supreme Court case as the pending proceedings had lost their relevance.
