Chamala Congress Member of Parliament Kiran Kumar Reddy has urged Union Minister for Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy to order a comprehensive inquiry into all tenders conducted by Singareni Collieries Company Limited (SCCL) since 2014 till date, citing the need to protect transparency and public interest in the prestigious public sector undertaking.
In a letter to the Union minister, he welcomed the Centre’s swift response to the Naini coal block controversy, particularly the setting up of a two-member inquiry committee. He, however, cautioned against limiting the probe to just canceling the Naini coal block tender.
The MP demanded that the inquiry be widened to include all tenders, contracts and official decisions made in Singareni over the past decade, including those completed during the tenure of the previous government, as well as tenders currently underway.
Arguing for a deeper investigation, Mr Reddy said any irregularities in the awarding of tenders over the past 10 years must be brought to the notice of the people of Telangana to protect the long-term interests of Singareni, who play a vital role in the state’s economy and employment.
Only a comprehensive inquiry would restore public confidence and ensure fairness in PSU operations, he said.
