
The KR Puram police arrested a couple for allegedly stealing gold ornaments from women in crowded places like temples, fairs and public buses and recovered 398 gm of gold jewelery worth ₹60 lakh.
According to the police, a complaint was lodged on April 4, 2025 that her gold jewelery was stolen while visiting a temple.
According to the complaint, on April 3, the complainant along with her family visited the Mariyamma temple in Devasandra. After praying and collecting the prasadam, she noticed that her 30g gold mangalyachin had disappeared. Unidentified persons were suspected to have stolen the jewelery in the midst of the crowd.
A case of theft has been registered at KR Puram police station following which a detailed investigation has been initiated.
Acting on credible information and technical inputs, police tracked down the couple, identified as Gayathri, 33, and Srikanth, 42, residents of Kamasandra in south Bengaluru on December 23, 2025, at a bus stand in Kammanahalli.
During interrogation, the accused allegedly confessed their involvement in the case and revealed that they along with three other associates from abroad targeted women by mingling with them during religious fairs, temple visits and bus travel and stole gold ornaments.
Police further revealed that some of the stolen gold was pawned at a bank in Hebbagodi, while some jewelery was sold at a jewelery shop in Mysuru.
Based on their confession, the police recovered the stolen valuables pawned at Hebbagodi Bank. Subsequently, on January 23, 2026, 40 g of gold jewelery sold at a Mysuru jewelery store was also recovered. The total recovery was 398 grams of gold jewelery worth ₹60,00,000.
The accused was produced before the court and was remanded in judicial custody.
After arresting the couple, the police detected six cases of theft, including three cases at KR Puram Police Station, one case at Avalahalli Police Station, one case at Hoskote Police Station (Bengaluru Rural District) and one case at Kolar Town Police Station.
