CM urges MoJS to convince Maha for Tummidihatti dam at 152 meters FRL

Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy on Tuesday asked Union Jal Shakti Minister CR Patil to convince Maharashtra about Telangana’s proposed Tummidihatti barrage with 152 meters full reservoir level (FRL) and secure all statutory clearances for the project at the earliest.

He also urged the Union Minister to approve environmental clearance for the Palamuru-Rangareddy Lift Irrigation System (PRLIS) and the Sita Rama Lift Irrigation Project (SRLIP) to direct the Krishna River Management Board (KRMB) to install telemetry equipment at all Krishna water abstraction points.

In a meeting with the Union Minister, the Chief Minister explained to him that the information required by Maharashtra had already been submitted. The Chief Minister was accompanied by Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy, Irrigation Adviser Aditya Nath Das and others.

The Chief Minister raised several questions regarding the projects initiated by Telangana in the Krishna and Godavari basins which are being discussed by the Centre. He explained to the Union minister that the Tummidihatti barrage with 152 meters FRL would ensure gravity pumping of water into the Yellampally reservoir, thereby reducing the burden of electricity required for lifting water.

Highlighting the importance of PRLIS, SRLIP and Gouravelli projects, Mr. Revanth Reddy urged Mr. Patil to issue the EC without further resolution as the expenditure incurred on the projects so far remained unproductive due to delay in their completion. The delay in issuing ECs has escalated the cost of projects, he said, recalling that the Center had recently told the Supreme Court that it would issue ECs to projects as per guidelines formulated in the past.

The Chief Minister also brought to the attention of the Union Minister the pending clearance for the Sammakka Sagar project from the Central Water Commission (CWC). He informed the Union Minister that Telangana is actively seeking to obtain a No Objection Certificate for the project from the Government of Chhattisgarh.

On the water issue, Krishna urged the Union Minister to ensure installation of telemetry equipment at all required points as soon as possible to properly account for water abstraction/use and that the Telangana government released ₹4.15 crore to KRMB for installation of telemetry in the first phase. The equipment needed to be installed in the points designated for the second and third phases.
