It’s that time of year. Christmas 2025 is here and with it your travel plans, the most awaited family dinner and the never ending excitement of decorating the Christmas tree that you bought with your hard earned money.
But do you know how expensive it is to celebrate Christmas holidays in your city?
A study by digital entertainment platform JB analyzed several US cities to reveal where winter decorations, Christmas trees and family dinners cost the most.
The study compared America’s 25 largest cities by calculating holiday costs based on food, decorations and Christmas trees.
The cost of dinner was calculated for six people using common holiday ingredients (including meat, potatoes, wine and soft drinks), along with the average cost of a Christmas tree and holiday decorations in each city.
The report ranked cities by overall cost, with the places at the top being the most expensive to host Christmas.
Here’s an estimated breakdown of how much money is spent on Christmas dinner, a Christmas tree and Christmas decorations, according to the study:
‘Christmas is getting more expensive’
A report shared with Mint quoted JB’s CEO as saying, “Christmas is getting more expensive for all families across the US. These days, the cost of holiday food, a Christmas tree and even basic decorations can really add up.”
“Having a traditional Christmas is becoming a serious investment and the differences between cities are greater than most people realize. Big family celebrations in small, quiet towns have always been a Christmas movie, but for people on a tight budget it can become a necessary reality,” said the CEO.
