Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi will attend a meeting of BRICS national security advisers to be held in New Delhi on June 22-23, Beijing announced on Thursday (Jun 18, 2026).

The BRICS National Security Advisers Meeting is a high-level platform that brings together National Security Advisers (NSAs) from the 11 BRICS member states to exchange views on key security challenges.

Mr Wang will attend the meeting by invitation, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian said at a press conference in Beijing on Thursday (Jun 18, 2026).

Mr. Wang will exchange views with other BRICS member states on the current international security situation and major international and regional issues, Lin said.

The Chinese foreign minister is also a member of the Politburo of the ruling Communist Party of China and director of the Foreign Affairs Office of the Central Commission.

The meeting will also discuss joint responses to traditional and non-traditional security challenges and preparations for the BRICS summit to be held in India in September, Mr Lin said.

“In the midst of a transforming and volatile world with many security challenges on the rise, the BRICS countries, at the forefront of the Global South, are committed to protecting world peace, promoting common development, practicing multilateralism and enabling fairer global governance,” said Mr. Lin.

China looks forward to improving communication and coordination with BRICS members to further enrich political and security cooperation and contribute to world peace and stability, he added.

The meeting comes at a time of heightened geopolitical tensions in several regions.

Mr Wang, who is also Beijing’s special representative on the India-China border issue, is expected to meet NSA Ajit Doval during his visit to New Delhi to discuss bilateral issues, according to official sources.

India holds the rotating presidency of the BRICS bloc this year. Its members include Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates.

The previous meeting of BRICS non-state entities was hosted by Brazil in Brasilia last year.

India’s Consul General in Shanghai Pratik Mathur urged Chinese investors to explore the “enormous opportunities” offered by India’s fast-growing economy.

“India remains committed to fostering partnerships that promote resilience, innovation, sustainable growth and shared prosperity,” Mr. Mathur said while attending trade and investment meetings in Shanghai.

“We invite investors and partners from around the world to explore the tremendous opportunities offered by India’s dynamic and fast-growing economy,” Mathur added.

Mr. Mathur also represented the Consular Corps at the Invest Forum organized in Shanghai’s Jing’An District, home to the historic Jing’An Temple, which reflects centuries of civilizational exchanges between India and China.

He also highlighted India’s growing attractiveness as an investment destination, especially under India’s BRICS chairmanship in 2026.

India took over the BRICS chairmanship this year under the theme ‘Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability’.

Through a people-centric approach to development, India is working to deepen cooperation between BRICS members and the wider Global South in areas such as trade, technology, innovation, sustainable development and resilient supply chains, he added.
