China rejected reports proposing interviews with the US to achieve tariffs agreements and stated that Beijing’s position is “consistent and clear”.
“China and the US do not consult or negotiate on tariffs, and are less and less agreement,” said the Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun on media briefing in the capital after being asked to claim that China and the US had interviews and even planned to reach an agreement.
“This tariff war has started the US. The Chinese position is consistent and clear. We will fight if necessary. Our door is open if the US wants to speak; dialogue and negotiation must be based on equality, respect and mutual contribution,” Guo said.
The Chinese Ministry of Trade refutes reports from the US and China
In a separate incident, the Chinese Ministry of Trade also refuted reports on interviews between US and China to achieve tariffs agreements.
He stated that there is no “no factual foundation” for such reports.
He answered questions about media briefing, ministry spokesman, Yadong, said: “If the US wants to really solve the problem, it should observe rational voices from the international community and domestic parties, completely cancel all unilateral tariffs in China and find solutions to the same dialogue.”
In statements this week, US President Donald Trump seemed willing to reconsider the high tariffs that he had chosen for Chinese goods since the beginning of his second term.
He also suggested that higher Beijing officials were in contact with Washington to start laying the basics for discussions on this matter, Hong Kong Southern China Morning Post reported.
At a meeting with closed doors with investors on Tuesday, she said that US Finance Minister Scott Bessnt said that the high customs war between the US and China was unsustainable.
“No one thinks that the current quo status is sustainable, at 145 and 125 ( %), so I would assume that there will be de-schooling during the very near future,” Trump said, with reference to the highest end of most tariffs.
Trump ordered 145 percent of tariffs against China and in a later Factor Sheet on Bílý House tariffs 17. April said that China is now facing 245 % of imports for imports to the US as a result of Beijing’s retaliation, which imposes 125 % of US import benefits.
While he was escalating tariffs against China, Trump suspended his tariffs against the rest of the countries, including India, for 90 days, so Beijing isolated.
