The HAL police have issued notices to five crèche employees operating within IT firm Capgemini and summoned them for questioning over allegations of physical abuse and cruelty against the children of the company’s employees.
The HAL police registered an FIR against the workers at the crèche – Little Buds Day Care – on June 29.
The police collected video clips allegedly showing the alleged abuse and sent them to the Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) for further verification. The interrogation will ascertain the exact role of the personnel, based on which necessary legal action will be taken, said a senior police officer.
The FIR names Manjula, Vijayalakshmi, Bhavani, Sindhu and Bindu as caretakers. They were booked under Section 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice Act, 2015, on a complaint filed by Tilakesh Kumar.
According to the complaint, the alleged incidents occurred on June 25 at the Little Buds day care facility, located on the Capgemini campus in Brookefield. The complainant alleged that the nursery staff, including managers and carers, subjected the children to physical and psychological abuse.
According to the complaint, children who cried or were disruptive were beaten, dragged, mistreated, locked in a washroom, doused with water and allegedly physically assaulted.
The complainant said videos showing children crying were circulated on WhatsApp, bringing the alleged abuse to light.
Temporarily closed
On July 1, Capgemini released a statement announcing its full cooperation with investigators and the temporary closure of the day care facility on the campus.
The police have formed a special team to investigate
Bengaluru City Police Commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said a special team headed by an officer of the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) has been formed for the investigation. “The FIR was registered on the basis of a call to the child helpline. The police visited the spot and collected the CCTV footage from the campus, which is now being analysed,” he said.
Mr. Singh also announced that the police will collect details of all the day care centers run by the companies in Bengaluru and ensure that all rules are followed in these centres. “Any violation will be dealt with strictly,” he said.
