During the visit, the Chief Minister drank water produced at the Nemmeli desalination plants to highlight its quality and safety.
He inspected various plant components, including suction structure, finned scrubber, reverse osmosis permeate tank, neutralization sump, product tank, clean water tank, sludge thickener, administration building, warehouse, lime filter, reverse osmosis building, reverse osmosis feed tank, dissolved air flotation unit, gravity dual filter, chemical building, electrical installation and workshops under construction.
An official statement said Mr. Vijay directed officials to ensure proper maintenance of the Nemmeli desalination plants so that drinking water is supplied to the public without interruption. He also directed them to speed up the construction of the Perur Desalination Project.
DMK threatens to protest
Former DMK minister TM Anbarasan on Monday warned that the party would launch a protest if the state government failed to restore the plaque on the Nemmeli desalination plant, which bears former chief minister MK Stalin’s name. Speaking to reporters, Mr. Anbarasan claimed that the board was covered with cloth before the Chief Minister’s visit to the factory. “When we asked the officials, they said the board was damaged and it will be restored within a week. If it is not restored, the DMK will stage a protest,” he said.
Mr. Anbarasan alleged that ever since the TVK came to power, the government has been trying to erase or suppress the achievements and social initiatives of the previous DMK regime. He said such acts are condemnable.
