Delhi High Court Chief Justice Devendra Kumar Upadhyaya on Wednesday directed the chief secretary to take action following incidents of porn playing during virtual court proceedings. This came after proceedings were adjourned three times after an unknown person repeatedly played porn clips during the hearing.
According to reports, the account in question at one stage displayed a message saying “you have been hacked”, causing concern among participants. There was also an automated audio message claiming that the system had been “hacked”. The source, authenticity and intent of this report have not been independently verified.
After the court proceedings were repeatedly adjourned, Additional Solicitor General Chetan Sharma informed the Chief Justice that the incident had also taken place in many other courts.
He added that the court has to take action and a remedy is available under Section 69A of the IT Act to immediately remove the content that has started circulating online.
“Administratively, I have already instructed the RG because according to our rules, it can only be shown if it is recorded,” the senate president said.
When the ASG pointed out that the video was being circulated online, the Chief Justice said recording of court proceedings was prohibited and action would be taken against those who recorded or circulated the incident.
Following this, the Delhi High Court administration on Wednesday filed a formal complaint against the Intelligence Fusion & Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit of the Delhi Police. According to the Delhi Police, a preliminary investigation into the incident has been launched to assess whether there was any security breach.
Delhi Police officials said that information about the matter has been received and that the case is at a very initial stage. The police are currently investigating the case and further details are awaited.
The cyber unit is expected to analyze system logs, access logs and potential vulnerabilities as part of its investigation. Further action will depend on the findings of the ongoing probe.
