Indian women’s team captain Harmanpreet Kaur has revealed her mantra for the side as they prepare for the biggest match of their lives. As India prepare to take on South Africa in the Women’s ODI World Cup final, the pressure will be on, but the captain’s message to her team is clear – keep calm, focus and keep chasing small goals.
With Navi Mumbai’s DY Patil Stadium expected to be packed to capacity, the Women in Blue will have the full strength of the home crowd behind them. While this opportunity comes with immense pressure, Harmanpreet believes the crowd’s support has been a huge source of motivation.

“Yeah, first of all I think the crowd has been amazing, especially in Mumbai. It’s always packed and we get so much motivation and support from them. No matter what the situation is, they’re always there cheering us on,” commented Harmanpreet Kaur at the pre-match press conference.
The captain also acknowledged that playing at home The World Cup can take an emotional toll, but maintaining focus and balance was at the heart of their preparation.
“When it comes to a home World Cup, there are always emotional ups and downs because it’s difficult. But at the same time we talked about how tomorrow’s game is the most important. The key is to keep your balance and focus,” she said.
“We had sessions on how to stay focused and composed and at the same time relax because that’s the biggest stage and the biggest opportunity for us — to play at home, and that too in the final,” she added.
ENJOY THE MOMENT
Harmanpreet also emphasized the importance of taking in the moment and enjoying what could be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the players. She reminded her team that few cricketers get a chance to play a World Cup final on home soil.
“I think the most important thing is to enjoy the moment because for us as cricketers and for me as captain, there is nothing bigger than this. Our aim is to enjoy it and set small goals as a team rather than thinking about the bigger picture. When you achieve the small goals, the bigger ones will follow. So focus on the little things, keep them in mind and move forward,” she concluded.
As India prepare for the final showdown, Harmanpreet’s steady approach could be just what they need to stay composed and create history in front of a roaring home crowd.
