Union Minister for Coal and Mines G Kishan Reddy said the Central Government has approved the purchase of 1,25,855 metric tonnes of pulses and oilseeds produced by Telangana farmers by paying more than ₹894 crore under Minimum Support Price (MSP).
Mr. Kishan Reddy expressed happiness that the decision was taken in favor of Telangana farmers and expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan in a press release on Thursday.
For the 2026 crop season, the center will procure 29,860 metric tonnes of Bengal gram (chana), 37,020 metric tonnes of green gram (moong), 55,285 metric tonnes of groundnut and 3,690 metric tonnes of sunflower seed at MSP, he said.
Mr. Kishan Reddy added that these positive measures of the Modi government are helping the farmers to get a fair income while encouraging cultivation of commercial crops. He noted that these initiatives will further promote the development of agriculture and strengthen the rural economy.
He said that the central government has been working for the last 12 years to make agriculture profitable. Initiatives such as soil testing, subsidized seeds, subsidized fertilizers and subsidized farm equipment have provided a number of benefits to farmers.
Apart from reducing the cost of cultivation, the government has ensured an MSP that is at least 50% to 100% higher than the cost of production, significantly increasing farmers’ income, he said, claiming that since 2014, the Center has procured paddy cotton worth nearly ₹ 2,00,000 crore and ₹ 70,000 crore to Telangana cotton farmers.
