The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has launched an AI-based helpbot named ‘Abhay’ for verification of CBI notices, a system designed to protect citizens from the growing menace of cyber fraud and digital arrests.
“Cyber fraud has emerged as a serious challenge facing India’s criminal justice system. The rapid advancement of technologies such as artificial intelligence and deep counterfeiting is making it increasingly difficult for ordinary citizens to distinguish between what is real and what is fabricated,” the agency said.
In the “Digital Arrest” scam, fraudulent notifications are used to trap potential victims. “Once the victim is tricked into complying, the fraudsters begin a sham legal process that keeps the victim under the pretext of ‘digital arrest’ for several days, a concept that has no legal existence in Indian law,” the CBI said.
“Citizens can access ‘Abhay’ anytime through the official CBI website www.cbi.gov.in,” he added.
