CBI arrested two men from Mahashtry for allegedly deceiving the Neet UG 2025 and their families by claiming that they could manipulate scores and charge 90 lakh on the candidate, officials said on Saturday (June 14, 2025).
Sandeep Shah and Salim Patel, residents of Salapur and Navi Mumbai, allegedly cable applicants acted as mediators with access to non -existent officials of the National Test Agency (NTA).
CBI is on the trail of the third suspect who is escape, is understood as the main fraud.
Reportedly, they demanded up to 90 ₹ Lakh on the candidate, later reduced the amount to 87.5 Lakh during negotiations on the provision of ranks in merit, the police said.
Mr. Shah reportedly organized secret meetings with anxious parents at the ITC Grand Central Luxury Hotel in Parel, Mumbai.
During these meetings, he allegedly assured clients that their children’s scores could be inflated and that the revised stamps would be published for six hours before the official announcement of the results.
The CBI investigation showed that Mr. Shah was in contact with Mr. Patel, who operates the admission consulting firm in Navi Mumbai, and other individuals who lead a similar counseling in Pune.
“Forensic exploration of mobile phones of arrested individuals revealed the cottages containing details of potential candidates, their numbers, receiving cards, OMR receiving cards and evidence of financial transactions through the Hawala network,” CBI spokesman said.
Both were submitted before a special court at the beginning of this week, which sent them to CBI custody by June 16.
“The investigation did not find any involvement of government officials or NTA employees in the accused in the case of. The defendants falsely claimed to connect with NTA officials,” the spokesman added.
The authorities believe that the accused cynically reported parents by creating context with the investigative authorities to believe in their complicated scheme.
