The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a nominated board member in Meerut for allegedly demanding and receiving a bribe of ₹300.
The accused has been identified as Satish Kumar Sharma. He was appointed as a nominated member of the Board of Trustees in Uttar Pradesh’s Meerut. Mr. Sharma allegedly demanded illegal gratification for the smooth continuation of the tender process for parking, canteen and entrance fees for Gandhi Bagh, Meerut Cantt.
The tender was awarded to a private firm run by the complainant on behalf of his mother through e-auction for ₹76.34 crore. The accused threatened to cancel the tender for some flimsy reason if he did not pay the bribe.
Based on the complaint and initial findings, the CBI registered a case and laid a trap. The accused was caught red-handed while accepting ₹3 crore from the complainant, the agency said.
