Can an English release help Indian films penetrate beyond the diaspora? | Today’s news
The overseas business of Indian films has so far been largely driven by diaspora audiences who prefer to watch them in the original language. However, with the big-budget mythological epic Ramayana headed for an English release and the action film Toxic recently attempting the same, entertainment industry experts say the strategy could attract younger audiences from the diaspora, second and third generation Indians and more importantly, non-Indian audiences who may know the story but have never seen it on the big screen. This could build on streaming trends where more Indian titles are dubbed and watched in English and other foreign languages.
