By-election Results 2026 LIVE UPDATE: Counting of votes for Baramati and Rahuri Assembly seats in Maharashtra is now underway.
A voter turnout of 58.27% was recorded in Baramati, where Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Sunetra Pawar is running, while Rahuri saw a turnout of 56.20%, according to election officials.
Counting of votes began at 8 o’clock in both parts of the council.
Maharashtra
The Baramati seat in Pune district fell vacant after the death of then deputy CM and Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) president Ajit Pawar in a plane crash on January 28, prompting a by-poll.
His wife Sunetra Pawar, who is contesting her first election to the lower house, is among the 23 candidates in the fray. During the campaign, she appealed to voters to support her as a tribute to her late husband.
No major political party has fielded a candidate against her and she is expected to secure a comfortable victory given her family’s influence over the constituency.
The Rahuri assembly seat in Ahilyanagar district fell vacant due to the death of BJP MLA Shivaji Kardile in October last year.
His son Akshay Kardile contested the bypoll as a BJP candidate. His rivals include NCP (SP) candidate Govind Mokate and Santosh Chalke of Vanchit Bahujan Aghadi.
Karnataka
Two assembly segments in Karnataka – Bagalkot and Davanagere South – faced bypolls on April 9.
The polls were prompted by the death of senior Congress MLAs HY Meti (Bagalkot) and Shamanur Shivashankarappa (Davanagere South).
Although the outcome of this by-election is unlikely to have an immediate impact on state politics, the contest is seen as a matter of prestige for both the ruling Congress and the opposition BJP.
While the Congress faces the challenge of retaining both the seats, the BJP aims to wrest them away and bring a setback to the ruling party, which is currently witnessing an “internal power struggle” for leadership.
There has been speculation that a decision on a leadership change and a much-anticipated cabinet reshuffle is likely after the May 4 results.
According to the Election Commission, voter turnout was 68.74% in Bagalkot and 68.43% in Davanagere South.
Gujarat
The by-election to the Umreth Assembly seat in Gujarat was necessitated after the death of the then sitting BJP MLA Govind Parmar.
The by-election held on 23 April saw 59.04% of the vote, with six candidates in the fray.
Nagaland
Counting of votes for the bypass to Koridang constituency in Mokokchung district of Nagaland has begun.
The poll had necessitated the demise of incumbent BJP MLA Imkong L Imchen in November last year. Held on April 9, it witnessed a strong voter turnout of 82.21%.
Six candidates are vying for the seat, including BJP candidate Daochier I Imchen, who is also the consensus candidate of the Naga People’s Front (NPF)-led People’s Democratic Alliance (PDA) government, Congress candidate T Chalukumba Ao, NPP’s I Abenjang and independents Imchatoba Imshikaba Imshikaba Imchatoba Imshikaba, Imchatoba.
Tripura
The by-election to the Dharmanagar Assembly constituency in North Tripura has begun amid tight security.
The ban under Section 163 of the BNS came into force at 6 am within 100 meters of the counting hall to avoid law and order problems, said Returning Officer (RO) Debjani Choudhury.
