There was high drama in the Telangana Legislative Council as members of the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) were suspended following protests demanding a probe into the alleged illegal mining case involving Raghava Constructions and the removal of Minister Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy by a House committee on Monday (March 30, 2026).
BRS members staged a protest in the House of Representatives, raised slogans and held banners. They stormed the Speaker’s dais and insisted on setting up a House committee to investigate the alleged irregularities and take action against the minister.
Reacting to the agitation, Legislative Affairs and IT Minister D. Sridhar Babu said that Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy had already clarified in the Assembly that a CID inquiry would be ordered into the matter. He called on the opposition to cooperate in ensuring the smooth progress of the proceedings of the House.
Council Speaker Gutta Sukhender Reddy repeatedly appealed to the protesting members to return to their seats and allow the House to function. Mr. Sridhar Babu also urged the members to uphold the dignity of the Legislative Council, often referred to as the “House of Elders”.
However, while the BRS MLCs continued their protest, the minister moved a resolution demanding their suspension for the day. Based on the resolution, the chairman announced the expulsion of the protesting council members for the remainder of the meeting day.
The members who have been suspended include G. Madhusudhana Chary, T. Ravinder Rao, Deshapati Srinivas, L. Ramana, Yadava Reddy, Naveen Kumar Reddy, Madhusudhan, Sunkari Raju, Vani Devi, Pochampally Srinivas Reddy and M. Koti Reddy.
