BRS MLC suspended from Council for session

BRS MLCs Tata Madhu and Naveen Kumar Reddy, arrested by the police in the morning, have been expelled from the Legislative Council for the rest of the session for allegedly making derogatory remarks about Assembly Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar.

Legislative Affairs Minister D. Sridhar Babu moved a resolution suspending them and the House passed it unanimously. Legislative Council Speaker Gutha Sukender Reddy announced the suspension of two BRS MLCs and adjourned the session. The Council’s action was based on a resolution previously passed by the Legislature and sent to the Council.

Other BRS MLCs protested the suspension and raised slogans against Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy outside the House.

Earlier, Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha moved a resolution demanding action against the two BRS MLCs and was seconded by Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka. Chairman Gaddam Prasad Kumar was not in the chair but panel chairman Kadiyam Srihari was in the chair when the motion was moved.

KCR should take responsibility

The resolution also said that Leader of the Opposition K. Chandrashekhar Rao should be held responsible for the said misconduct by members of his party and tender an unconditional apology to the Speaker in the interest of institutional integrity, decency and decorum of the House.

The resolution further said: “This House records its strongest condemnation and deep disapproval of the highly defamatory, insulting and unparliamentary remarks allegedly made by Sri Tata Madhusudhan and Sri N. Naveen Kumar Reddy, both members of the Telangana Legislative Council under the BRS Party, on 2207 near Gate No.3 pre0cinct9. Hon’ble Speaker of the Telangana Legislative Assembly.”

The resolution also condemned the indecent behavior of the two members for removing their shirts in front of women in public, which apart from being highly inappropriate, also outraged the modesty of the women present at the scene of the incident.

The resolution also states that no political disagreement, personal grievance or difference of opinion can justify conduct which aims at or has the effect of diminishing the dignity and authority of the presiding officer.
