Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) general secretary and former IPS officer RS Praveen Kumar has demanded that a special investigation team (SIT) comprising senior police officers of the DGP cadre be formed to probe the high-profile POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offenses Act, 2012) case registered against the son of state police constable Basheer Bandhey Bandhey Sanhey.
In a statement on Sunday, he said that the police did not even receive a complaint from the victim’s family at around 5am on Saturday, saying that high-ranking persons were associated with the accused, and even a confirmation of the complaint (not a copy of the FIR) was not given to the victim’s family until they threatened suicide in a meeting of the Prime Minister on Sunday.
He further sought to find out why Congress leaders like D. Seethakka and K. Surekha were tight-lipped on the issue when they have all the time to respond to everything. He also sought action against police officers who tried to protect the accused in the POCSO case.
