Farm Commission Chairman Kodanda Reddy accused the BRS government of being “solely responsible for the land-related hardships faced by Telangana farmers”, refuting former minister T. Harish Rao’s allegations regarding the implementation of the Bhu Bharati Act.
Mr. Kodanda Reddy said that the problems pointed out by Mr. Harish Rao were actually created during the BRS regime by the introduction of the Dharani portal. He argued that BRS has no moral right to speak about farmers’ issues after handing over key land and personal data of Telangana farmers to a US-based company.
The Congress government took immediate corrective measures, with Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy keeping his promise to get rid of Dharani and introducing the transparent Bhu Bharati Act. The government legalized the long pending Sadabainam cases by vacating the Supreme Court and ensuring their inclusion under Bhu Bharati.
The Dharani portal was transferred from private control to the National Information Center (NIC) to increase transparency and accountability. The government has also appointed village-level administrative officers and licensed land surveyors to strengthen land administration.
Mr. Kodanda Reddy noted that the Farmers’ Commission has offered guidance to more than 3,000 farmers and the government has started examining nine million applications received during revenue sabhas and another nine million Sadabainam applications pending since the previous clearance.
