Since the Bharatiya Janata Party increases illegal migration and infiltration as key problems before the elections to the Bihar assembly, the latest data of the Office for National Crime Records show that only five cases concerning foreigners and passport acts in 2023.
In 2023 a total of 2,290 cases were registered under the Act on the Registration of Foreigners of 1939; Law of Foreigners, 1946; Passport Act, 1967; Act on Emigration, 1983; and the 1955 citizenship Act, according to the report “Crime Report in India 2023” issued by NCRB on Monday.
A maximum of 1,050 such cases were registered in West Bengal, followed by 277 cases in Tripura, 272 in Mahari, 167 in Tamil Nadu and 78 in Pandjáb.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Interior Minister AMIT Shah referred to the question of infiltration in Bihar in his recent speeches in Bihar to justify the special intensive revision (Sir) of election roles performed by the Election Commission in the State.
The “Prison Statistics in India 2023”, which was also published on Monday, said that the number of foreigners in prisons in the country increased from 6 283 in 2022 to 6,956 in 2023, an increase of 10.7%. Bangladesh nationals included the largest number of foreign convicts in Indian prisons (59.4%), followed by 13.3% of Nepal, 10.46% of Myanmar, 6.5% of Pakistan and 3.9% of Nigeria.

The total number of “crimes against the state” decreased by 13.1% in 2023 compared to 2022. A total of 4,873 such cases were registered in 2023, compared to 5 610 cases in 2022.
