Former India all-rounder Robin Singh believes the two experienced batsmen will be a valuable asset to the Men in Blue as they prepare for the global showpiece in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.Rohit has scored two centuries and 92 in his last five ODI innings, while Kohli has scored one hundred and two half-centuries in the same period. Their consistency has made them strong contenders as India work to complete their World Cup combination.Speaking exclusively to IANS, Robin emphasized that their current form, fitness and experience will be crucial for India’s campaign.

Robin believes that age should not be an issue for the two former Indian captains, given their recent performances and dedication to fitness.“I think experience is one thing. But more importantly, I think their form is important. And of course, you know, with age you get enough and more experience. So it’s not really a problem. They know what to do,” Robin told IANS.“It’s more about staying in the moment, staying fit and playing well. I think they are doing that exceptionally well. So no complaints. They will definitely be a big asset to the Indian team,” he added.

Robin Singh supports Gambhir’s World Cup planning

India experimented with different combinations in the recent ODI series as head coach Gautam Gambhir and his support team assess their options ahead of the 2027 World Cup. Robin said the team management will look to provide opportunities to players who suit its long-term strategy before finalizing the squad.“I’m pretty sure Gautam and his team members will have their formula. I’m sure he has the way he would like to do in the World Cup. What type of players he wants for the World Cup,” he said.He added that the upcoming tasks will be important to determine the best combination for the tournament.

Robin also weighed in on the prospects of veteran pacers Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Mohammed Shami returning to India’s plans, especially with the 2027 FIFA World Cup being held in seam-friendly conditions. He said both pitchers have done enough to earn attention, although their selection will depend on the team’s requirements.“I think those two are excellent bowlers regardless of their age. They’ve actually done enough to give themselves a chance to get back into the side. They’re both really good bowlers, excellent bowlers,” Robin said.
