The main accused in the crèche abuse case, who is on the run, was granted anticipatory bail by a Bengaluru court on July 9. Accused Manjula, caretaker and invigilator at the Capgemini campus crèche, who was named as accused No. 1 in the case of alleged cruelty to children, has been registered absconding since the FIR.

An FIR was registered on the basis of a call to the child helpline (1098). Manjula was booked under Section 351(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, which deals with assault or use of criminal force, and Section 75 of the Juvenile Justice (Care and Protection of Children) Act, 2015, which deals with cruelty to children by the person actually accused or controlling them. Both offenses are punishable by up to three years in prison.

“The accused has been granted anticipatory bail. We are awaiting her appearance before us for questioning as per the court’s directions,” said a senior police officer.

The HAL police are waiting for her to appear before them for bail formalities when she will be questioned. Investigators are looking into the circumstances surrounding the alleged video leak that brought the incident to light and whether it was ulterior motive.
