Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said on Thursday that the street vendors who will be removed from the main roads under the ‘Safe Path’ campaign will be accommodated in the notified vending zones.
“I discussed this with the legislators from the opposition parties when I was deputy minister. They also agreed and it is a decision based on consensus. Sidewalks are important for pedestrians as well. The Supreme Court is also deciding the issue,” he said.

Assuring that the interests of vendors will be taken care of, he said that about 37,000 vendors have applied for vending carts and about 60,000 persons have applied for vending machines. “We need about ₹50 to ₹60 crore. We have the money. Subsidies will also be extended to the needy.”
As the city-wide approval drive entered its second day, Bengaluru Development Minister Krishna Byre Gowda also claimed that the aim of the exercise was not to evict street vendors but to relocate them from main and side roads to precincts where they can continue their business.
