Based on a court order, the JKCA holds an annual general meeting to discuss the Irani Cup

The J&K Cricket Association (JKCA), mired in legal tussles, held its annual general meeting in Jammu on Sunday (September 27, 2026) after nearly 10 years to discuss hosting the first-ever Irani Cup in Kashmir from October 1-5. The general meeting continued on September 26 on the basis of a court order.

A JKCA spokesperson said 15 eligible club members, officials and members of the Association attended and added, “they discussed the preparations for the Irani Cup to be held at the Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium in Srinagar from October 1 to 5, 2026.”

“The meeting emphasized the importance of unity, collective responsibility and positive attitude of all stakeholders to further strengthen and promote cricket across J&K. The members expressed their determination to work together to build on the recent achievements and take J&K cricket to the next level,” the spokesperson said.

A local court in Jammu, in a ruling on Saturday (September 26, 2026), allowed the JKCA to hold a general meeting. Javed Ahmad Kitab, who was suspended as JKCA president in July this year, approached the court claiming that he is still the “elect president of JKCA”. After its suspension by resolution this year, the establishment and functioning of the Supreme Council and the appointment of a public defender of rights followed.

After hearing the petition filed by Mr. Kitab, the court considered the pleas challenging the JKCA notification and the alleged non-compliance with the provisions of the JKCA Constitution, but allowed the general meeting. However, the court ordered that any decision taken at the proposed general meeting “will not be announced and will remain subject to the outcome of the preliminary proposal.” The case is scheduled for further proceedings on October 10.

Meanwhile, the court was also told that the JKCA elections held on 16 January 2026, the results of which were subsequently declared on 21 May 2026, “were in violation of the rules and regulations of the Association and that several clubs and their representatives who participated in the earlier working committee meetings and elections were deprived of their alleged right to participate and vote”.
