Several parts of Bengaluru will experience power outages on Monday, December 22, as the Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Limited (KPTCL) carries out scheduled maintenance. Bangalore Electricity Supply Company Limited (BESCOM) has issued an advisory for residents of the affected areas.
Why does the power cut out?
According to KPTCL, the outage is due to quarterly maintenance work at KV Kambipura 66/11 substation. The maintenance is being done to ensure safe, reliable and uninterrupted power supply in the long run, Asianet Suvarna News reported.
When will the power go out?
BESCOM said electricity supply will be interrupted from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM on December 22. Residents are advised to plan their activities accordingly.
Which areas will be affected?
Power supply will be disrupted in parts of South West Bengaluru including:
Krishna Temple Government School Area
Anepalya and surrounding localities
What did BESCOM recommend to the residents?
KPTCL and BESCOM appealed to residents to complete essential power related works ahead of time and cooperate during the outage period, stating that the temporary inconvenience is necessary to improve service reliability.
Is this part of a larger maintenance?
KPTCL carries out quarterly maintenance work in Bengaluru and its suburbs in a phased manner. Recently, similar work at KV Somanahalli Substation 220/66/11 resulted in power outages in several areas from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM.
Why are these maintenance jobs important?
Officials said the maintenance is necessary to prevent unexpected breakdowns and ensure safe and uninterrupted power supplies, especially ahead of increased demand in the coming months.
Residents of the affected areas have been asked to endure temporary disruptions and cooperate with power companies.
Where can consumers make complaints?
BESCOM has requested the cooperation of consumers during the maintenance period. Complaints can be made on 1912 while residents can also check the BESCOM website to know about planned power cuts in advance.
Why the outage?
Planned outages are necessary to perform system improvement and maintenance activities, including wiring upgrades and transformer maintenance. BESCOM said these works are crucial to increase voltage stability and ensure long-term reliability of the power grid in suburban and rural parts of Bengaluru.
BESCOM Consumer Advice
Residents of affected areas have been advised to plan their energy-dependent activities accordingly. BESCOM also assured that power supply will be restored immediately after the maintenance work is completed.
