‘Badly timed, senseless’: Trump slams US Congress for passing war powers resolution to end Iran war | Today’s news

US President Donald Trump on Tuesday (local time) criticized Congress for passing a largely symbolic resolution calling for an end to the war with Iran, calling it “ill-timed and senseless”.

He made these remarks in a Truth Social post, writing: “So I have Iran on the ‘ropes’ ready to come down in the fall, willing to give us virtually anything, and for the first time in decades, with respect to the hell out of the United States and its president, ME, and the United States Senate has decided to have a poorly timed and senseless War Powers Act that voted on what The Number One says I. I’m doing it to them and I have to stop, and I’ve provided help and consolation to the Enemy.”

The US president also criticized Republican lawmakers who voted with Democrats to end the war, adding: “Four Republican losers voted with Democrats and Iran asked my people, ‘What does it all mean?’ These senators just made my job harder, but I’m going to do it one way or another because I always do!”

Trump’s remarks came hours after the US Senate joined the House of Representatives in ordering Trump to halt Washington’s military action against Tehran, the Republican president’s latest rebuke from an increasingly restive Congress, Reuters reported.

This is a developing story. Further details were awaited.
