The GMC Commissioner begins a two-day visit to Indore to study the city’s governance and sanitation practices

Guntur Municipal Corporation (GMC) Commissioner K. Mayur Ashok began a two-day study tour of Indore on Tuesday (June 23, 2025) to examine the city’s acclaimed municipal governance, sanitation and solid waste management practices.
According to a press release issued here, the commissioner held discussions with officials of the Indore Municipal Corporation and reviewed the implementation of the Swachh Bharat Mission, sanitation management systems, door-to-door waste collection mechanisms, scientific treatment of solid waste, resource recovery initiatives and circular economy practices. He has also studied urban infrastructure development, technology-driven municipal administration, administrative reforms, revenue-raising strategies, citizen participation models, and service delivery systems.
As part of the tour, the commissioner inspected the door-to-door garbage collection system and later visited the Rajshahi Garbage Transfer Station (GTS). He also examined the operation of the Integrated Solid Waste Management Control Center and interacted with officials on various management procedures.
The Commissioner subsequently visited the Kesarbagh Bridge Resource Recovery Center where he reviewed methods of recycling and value-added utilization of waste. Later in the day, he visited Devguradia Processing Site to study scientific treatment of solid waste, resource recovery from waste and sustainable waste management practices, the report said.
Mr. Ashok said the visit provided first-hand exposure to the policies and systems that have helped Indore consistently secure the top position in the country’s cleanliness rankings. He noted that the city’s success was driven by effective use of technology, strong public participation, efficient city administration and innovative revenue generation measures.
The Commissioner said that the Guntur Municipal Corporation will evaluate the best practices observed during the tour and initiate steps to implement those most suitable for the city to improve sanitation, waste management and overall city governance.
