Former Indian Captain Mohammad Azharuddin said he was planning to approach the Supreme Court in Telangana and look for an order at the Ombudsman’s Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) to remove his name from the northern stand at the international cricket stadium Gandhi.
The justice (Retd) in Eswaraiah, serving as an ethical HCA officer, decided after the petition presented by the cricket club Lords, the HCA members. The petition accused Azharuddin of the abuse of his authority by former President HCA by making arbitrary decisions.
The petition claimed that the former cricket, with 99 tests and 334 ODI in his name, violated the rules of HCA by attending the top council meeting as former President of HCA to ensure a resolution in December 2019, just a month after he named the role of the association to name the northern stand.
“I will certainly deal with the legal procedure and I will appeal to the High Court to stay in this order. It is a pity that it is required that the name of Captain India be removed,” said Azharuddin PTI.
“I’m crazy?”
Azharuddin, who played 99 tests and 334 ODIS, questioned the order and said his tenancy had ended. The veteran also mentioned that some HCA officials focused on him because they could not participate in corrupt practices.
“According to the statutes of the Association, the possession of the Ombudsman is for one year. In this case, the Functional Directorate ended on February 18, 2025 and all orders for this period are invalid.
“He did not have an extension that can only be given during AGM, which did not happen. So how he handed over the order,” Azharuddin asked.
“You reduce the names of Abida Ali, Tiger Pataudi and Ml Jaisimha. This is one association that does not respect players. And whose petition is a public defender? Club (Lords Cricket Club), where there is no transparency of the real owner and who runs.
“I am crazy to remove the legend, such as Laxman’s name from the booth, the only man who played 100 plus tests from our region? At the northern booth, the pavilion is named after Laxman and still there, you can check,” he explained.
In 99 tests and 334 ODI in his career from 1985 to 2000, Azharuddin recorded 15,593 runs with 29 hundreds and 79 1950s. His last international performance was ODI against Pakistan in June 2000 at the Bangabandh National Stadium in Dhace.
