Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel made a candid admission after their horrific loss against Royal Challengers Bengaluru when he said he had no idea what had gone wrong with his team or why they suddenly lost form midway through the Indian Premier League.
DC has now lost back-to-back games in damaging fashion. Against Punjab Kings, they posted 264 runs, one of the highest totals in IPL history, only to slip the game away. Chasing down the target in just 18.5 overs, Punjab spelled major disaster for the Delhi side.
DC vs RCB, IPL 2026: Update | Scorecard
On Monday, DC were bowled out for just 75 runs, thanks to exceptional spells from Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. RCB found the target of 76 runs and chased it down in just 6.3 overs.
“I don’t even know what happened. In cricket you have to be alert. We have to forget these losses and move on,” Axar Patel said after the match.
The DC captain said he could nitpick if he wanted to, but advised that the team must stop taking things lightly in the Indian Premier League.
“You can think about it, but ifs and buts. One catch (vs Punjab) or one run in this GT game could have kept the momentum ticking. But you have to be on your toes and you have to be consistent with what you do. You can’t take anything lightly in the IPL. You know how difficult a tournament it is. You can’t think about the past and look to the future,” he added.
DC LOSE 5 IN 6 MATCHES
The loss against RCB was Delhi’s fifth in the last six matches. They started their tournament with two straight wins against Lucknow and Mumbai but lost the momentum completely. DC are now languishing in seventh place in the league table with three wins from eight matches.
Axar said the team needs to move quickly and stay positive in the second half of the tournament.
“We have to move on. If you are negative you have to play, if you are positive you have to play. I will tell the team too. Stay positive and move on from the loss,” Axar said.
The skipper praised RCB fast bowlers Josh Hazlewood and Bhuvneshwar Kumar for bowling well but added that his batsmen should have stayed in the crease and overlooked the tough phase.
“It didn’t surprise me. They are world class bowlers. If our top order had played a few more overs it would have been different. But credit to the RCB bowlers,” the DC skipper concluded.
DC don’t have much time to recover from the loss as they travel to Jaipur on May 1 to play Rajasthan Royals. They will then return home to play Chennai Super Kings on May 5.
