Former Australian captain Ricky Ponting has made a surprising confession – he is a fan of Bazball. The legendary dough appreciated the aggressive test cricket style in England under the coach Brendon McCullum and said he had evolved into a polished and more efficient approach since its foundation.
In an interview with The Times Ponting, he emphasized how England has improved from the previous Ashes series and believes that Australia will be better prepared to face them next time after meeting Bazball during Ashes in England.
“I’m like Aussie like anyone and me.” Love watching the way they play“Ponting said. Now they will have an understanding of what a slightly more refined version of what England started a few years ago.”
Since McCullum took the lead, England underwent radical transformation and dominated most of the domestic series. But Ponting noted that the style did not click immediately.
“When it first started, it seemed that Joe (root) kidnapped a little. He changed his game. He returned to playing normally. Ollie Pope is naturally aggressive and quickly score.
According to Ponting, this improvement was essential for England’s success against the best teams.
India missed chances – key lesson for Australia
Ponting also pointed to Indian fighting against Bazball as a lesson for Australia. He believes that Indian inability to quickly adapt to England to fight for 2-2 draws in a recent series.
“Probably holding the key in Australia. If they can really burn at the top and set things, it will give them a good chance in the series,” he said. “This is the way England naturally plays, and it just prepares everything for them, putting immediate pressure back on the pitch. You have to adapt really quickly, and India has started.”
With another Ashes, Ponting’s comments suggest that Australia is already thinking ahead – and that Bazball’s development will remain the central point of speech in the world cricket.
