On Tuesday, Australia excluded Iranian ambassador Ahmad Sadeghi after his domestic intelligence agency, Australian Security and Intelligence Organization (ASIO) found “trusted intelligence” connecting Iran with at least two anti -Semitic attacks on Australian land.
Asio, CEO Mike Burgess, said the agency had assessed that the Iranian government had ordered at least two and probably more attacks on Jewish goals.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said in an interview with Reporters in Canberra that Asio had associated Iran with attacks on Lewis Continental Kitchen, the Košerská food company in Sydney last October and Addas Israel Synagogue in Melbourne in December last year.
Australia gave the Iranian ambassador and three other officials seven days to leave the country. It is the first time since World War II, when Australia excluded the ambassador, said Penny Foreign Minister at a press conference.
“Asio has gathered enough credible intelligence to reach a deeply disturbing conclusion. The Iranian government ordered at least two of these attacks. Iran tried to cover its involvement, but asio assesses that it was an attack,” Albanian told reporters referring to the main top -class agency.
Australia also withdrew its diplomats sent in Iran to a third country, Albanes said.
In two cities there was a sharp increase in anti -Semitic events since the beginning of the Israeli War in 2023.
Australia will also be legisled by the list of Iranian Islamic Revolutionary Guards (IRGCs) as a terrorist organization, Albanese said.
“These were extraordinary and dangerous aggressive acts organized by a foreign nation on Australian land,” Albanese said.
“They were attempts to undermine social cohesion and stuck disagreement in our community. It is absolutely unacceptable,” he added.
