The US Senator Rand Paul (R-KY), chairman of the Security Committee and Government Affairs, has issued a damned final report that describes in detail the extended US secret service failure (USSS), which led to the assassination of President Donald Trump during the Butler campaign, 2024.
The report, published exactly one year after shooting, claims that system negligence, internal wrong communication and poor coordination between the US Secret Service and local enforcement of law. The attack that Trump left injured and fireman Corey Comperatore dead occurred after the shooter climbed to the roof of a nearby building and started fire.
“It was a scandal, not just a tragedy,” says Paul
“It was not the only judgment,” Senator Paul said in his statement. “It was a complete violation of safety at all levels – caused by bureaucratic indifference, lack of clear protocols and shocking refusal to act according to direct threats.”
Paul killed the agency for being unable to discuss credible intelligence and rejecting applications for increased sources in the days leading to the rally. He also criticized the lack of responsibility of the agency and noted that no one was released on the incident.
“Despite these failures, no one was released. And we only know what little discipline was distributed because I released summons. This is unacceptable,” Paul added.
Key finding out of the message
The year -round investigation of the committee included 17 rewritten interviews with the USSS staff and a review of more than 75,000 pages of documents from federal, state and local agencies. The final report is based on a preliminary report issued in September 2024 and includes new evidence.
Among the most serious findings:
Ignored intelligence: The report of a suspicious individual with a rangefinder on a nearby roof was received 25 minutes before the shots were fired, but no action was accepted.
Rejected applications rejected: The USSS rejected several internal applications for other assets of employees, equipment and counterattack sniper before the assembly.
False testimony: The then director of ASS Kimberly Cheatle falsely told Congress that no requests for other resources were rejected.
Limited liability: Only six agents received the formal discipline and no one was rejected. In two cases, initial disciplinary measures were reduced.
Communication failure: The intelligence of critical threats was not handed over to the security details that protected Trump, nor was the local enforcement of the right into the preliminary security process.
Counterparts will not be deployed: Despite intelligence briefings and politics, the teams of the anti -Niper were not present at the Butler rally or at the previous Rally in Dorral, Florida.
Challenge to reforms
The report strongly recommends extensive reforms to deal with what it calls “shocking refusal” to take preventive security actions. Paul urged the congress and other administration to overcome the protocols for the protection of the assembly, sharing intelligence and communication at the field level.
“We must consider individuals responsible and ensure that the reforms are fully done, so it will never happen again,” he said.
Butler shooting
13 July 2024, a shooter armed with a rifle launched fire from the roof of an American research building in near the venue Butler Farm Show, hit four people and killed one. Then the former President Trump was hit in his ear, but survived. The shooter was killed by recovering the right on the scene.
The attack meant the first assassination of the US presidential candidate for more than four decades and raised immediate questions about security disorders.
