At least two people were dead and six others were injured after a mass shooting was reported at Canada’s largest Latin street festival in Toronto, police said Saturday (local time).

Toronto police said in a post on X that the active shooter was at the intersection of St. Clair Avenue West and Arlington Avenue at 8:12 p.m. (local time). She also urged people to stay away from the downtown area, which has hosted the annual Salsa on St. festival for 22 years. Clair, celebrating Latino culture, CNN reported, citing organizers.

Police said large crowds gathered along the street shortly after sunset on a warm summer evening after reports of an active shooter and several wounded. Officers later found six victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
