Entrepreneur Ashneer Grover responded bluntly after Sridhar Vemba urged Indians living in the United States to consider returning to India and help strengthen the country’s tech ecosystem. In a post on X Vemba, he shared what he described as an “open letter” to Indians settled in America. He said many went to the U.S. with little money but took away strong educational foundations and cultural values from India.
“An open letter to Indians in America. Dear brothers and sisters from Bharat: Like me 37 years ago, you came to America with no money but with good education and cultural heritage from Bharat. You have achieved outstanding success. America has been kind to us. We must remain grateful for that, gratitude is our Bharatiya way,” Vembu wrote.
A warning against changing attitudes in America
Vembu added that despite the success of Indians abroad, a growing number of Americans now believe that Indians are taking jobs and that their successes are “unfairly earned”.
He further wrote, “You may think the next election will fix this, but your choice would be between people who hate our Bharatiya civilization and people who hate civilization itself. This is a fight of the ‘hard right’ versus the ‘woke left’. You are mere bystanders in this conflict.”
“Bharat Mata needs your talent”
According to Vembu, the global standing of Indians largely depends on India’s progress. He said respect, prosperity and security in the modern world come from technological power.
He also said that India has produced enough skilled talent, but much of it has moved overseas, especially to America.
“However difficult it is for many of you to contemplate, please return home. Bharat Mata needs your talent. Our vast youth population needs the technological guidance you have acquired over the years to lead them to prosperity. Let us do it with missionary zeal. Sincerely, Sridhar Vembu,” he concluded.
Grover dismisses the idea as unrealistic
Vembu’s comments soon drew a response from Grover, who bluntly dismissed the appeal.
“What a delulu! Apparently the record heat in India is making people dizzy. Just DON’T – be scientific in your approach. Look at the numbers – $1 = ₹94. Temperature = 50C,” Grover wrote.
Social media divided over debate
The exchange drew mixed reactions online.
One user said: “Patriotism is important, but asking people to come back without addressing the underlying issues is not practical.”
Another wrote: “India needs talent, but talent also needs infrastructure, clean cities and a better work culture.”
A third user commented: “Sridhar Vembu is right. Nation building cannot happen if everyone leaves.”
Another added: “Ashneer said what many people are thinking but are afraid to say.”
Vembu’s post crossed seven thousand views and sparked a wide discussion on social media.
