A gang of about six armed dacoits stormed a house in Bhagathnagar in Karimnagar district shortly after midnight on Tuesday (July 22, 2026), attacked two people at knife point and fled with 66 tolas of gold, 10 tolas of silver ornaments and 21 lakhs in cash.

The assailants allegedly attacked an elderly man, Ajmath Ali, and his wife with the butt of a dummy, gagged them with tape and tied their hands and feet.

They allegedly threatened others at the house with knives before fleeing with the loot on two motorbikes. The elderly couple suffered minor injuries.

The dacoits allegedly entered Mr. Ali’s house when he stepped out to switch off the light in the corridor around 12:30 p.m. They locked the door from the outside before escaping. Karimnagar Police Commissioner Gaush Alam inspected the crime scene on Wednesday morning. Several police teams are trying to trace the culprits using CCTV footage.

The incident comes less than 80 days after an armed robbery at PMJ Jewelers showroom in Karimnagar, which allegedly involved a Bihar-based gang. The alleged mastermind of the gang and other accused in the sensational armed robbery case have already been arrested.
