The power distribution sector in Andhra Pradesh has seen significant improvement in performance benchmarks as reflected in the 14th Annual Integrated Assessment and Rating of Power Distribution Utilities released by the Central Government through the Power Finance Corporation (PFC).
According to the PFC report, Central and Southern Power Distribution Companies improved their ratings by two notches, moving from ‘C’ to ‘B’ grade, thanks to strong financial and operational performance.
The report showed substantial improvements in KPIs for Discoms – collection efficiency increased from 94.91% to 99.26%, an increase of 2 percentage points, and Aggregate Technical & Commercial (AT&C) losses plummeted from around 12% to 7.90%, indicating effective loss reduction measures and improved system performance.
According to an official report, the state-wide ranking that assessed power distribution companies (Discoms) across the country on financial sustainability, operational efficiency and governance parameters highlighted a clear turnaround in AP DISCOMs whose improvement placed AP among the better performing states in the country in terms of distribution efficiency and financial discipline.
The improved national ratings were said to underline the impact of targeted reforms undertaken by the state government in the power sector, including strengthened billing and collection mechanisms, enhanced monitoring, targeted loss reduction initiatives and alignment with national reform programs such as the Enhanced Distribution Sector System (RDSS).
With the improved rating, the report said, the Andhra Pradesh government has reiterated its commitment to build financially sustainable, consumer-centric and reliable distribution networks that will ensure quality power supply while maintaining fiscal prudence.
