Fishermen in Rameswaram have started winding down activities at jetties across the region as a 61-day annual fishing ban period is set to begin from April 15, 2026 (Wednesday).
Under the Tamil Nadu Marine Fisheries Regulation Act, 1983, in view of the fish spawning season and for the conservation of fishery resources, a fishing ban is imposed on the east coast of Tamil Nadu for 61 days from 15 April to 14 June (both days inclusive) every year, which prohibits fishing by mechanized boats and trawlers.
