Andhra Pradesh Transport Minister M. Ramprasad Reddy said the government has approved a new system under which permanent registration of new vehicles will be completed within 24 hours.
The minister said in a statement that the decision was taken to eliminate delays in the vehicle registration process by the transport department. Admitting that there were unnecessary delays in the current system, he said thousands of vehicles across the state were facing delays.
“Under the new system, after the dealer completes the provisional registration, the traffic department officials have to review and approve applications for vehicles that do not seek luxury numbers within 24 hours,” he said, adding that if the officials do not respond within the stipulated time, the registration will be considered automatically approved after 24 hours.
Mr. Reddy said steps have been taken to ensure that approvals are given online and on holidays to avoid any inconvenience to the public. The system will be implemented across the state soon, he added.
