The Madurai Bench of the Madras High Court directed the Government of Tamil Nadu to formulate a comprehensive rehabilitation plan for transgender persons at the taluk level to open up avenues for self-employment and sustainable livelihood for them and ensure a dignified life and ensure their meaningful inclusion in the society, besides implementing welfare programs tailored to their needs.
The court expresses its deep sorrow that adequate justice has not been done to trans persons, Justice KK Ramakrishnan said. He added that the court notice takes cognizance of the prevailing socio-economic conditions of the translators. In order to remedy this situation, the court deems it appropriate to issue certain directions to the government to formulate a comprehensive rehabilitation plan at the taluk level.
