Access and Benefit Sharing (ABS), part of the Biodiversity (Amendment) Act, 2023, aims to ensure that the benefits of the exploitation of natural resources reach local communities, said N. Vijay Kumar, chairman of the Andhra Pradesh Biodiversity Board.
Under the Act, the council plans to launch a first-of-its-kind Marine ABS framework. As part of this initiative, APSBB in collaboration with the National Biodiversity Authority, Chennai, organized a workshop on “Sharing Access Benefits in Marine Resources: Transferring Capital to Coastal Communities” in Vijayawada on Wednesday (April 29).
